I’m always fascinated by what people watch on television, probably because I’m so bad at guessing my friends’ and coworkers’ favorite shows. So I figured I’d share a few things that are on the weekly record list and see what everyone thinks.
Top Chef
Even though it just ended, I’m including it on the list. It is the only reality TV I watch. Sure, I’ve caught seasons of The Amazing Race, Top Shot, or any of the Gordon Ramsey shows, but reality TV doesn’t hook me that much. As for Top Chef, I love food, cooking, exotic locations, and talking about what Padma is wearing this week. This past season was great because there was less drama than usual and the judges were actually nice to the chefs.
Well, I have been watching Jeopardy that last few months too. Does that count as reality TV? I’m not sure what a game show is even considered these days.
Justified
Based on two novels and a short story by Elmore Leonard. Raylan Givins is a federal marshal in Eastern Kentucky, and he has his unique brand of justice. He makes as many problems for himself as he manages to solve, and it is a fun adventure every week. If you like dysfunctional families with lots of guns and not much common sense, then this is the show for you.
Girls
The only thing better than my generation is being able to laugh at my generation.
True Detective
Holy crap, I have no idea where this show is going, and I’m loving every crazy, screwed up second of it. Buddy cop show set in the deep South with creepy pagan crimes to solve, it might not be for everyone. But if you’re looking for something different and don’t mind the HBO-level sex and violence, check it out.
Person of Interest
A different flavor of buddy cop, much more sophisticated than True Detective. A CIA operative is recruited by a reclusive billionaire to stop the crime of the week in New York City. The story arcs for the first three season have been satisfying, and the cast of characters is enjoyable. If you are looking for something on the lighter side, I’d recommend picking up this one from the beginning.
