How to Be Fascinating and Unforgettable

While I know how amazingly cool I am ;) , it isn’t always easy to communicate it to others.  On my blog, at my job, and in my personal life, I am curious how others see me and how I can put the best version of myself forward.  I watched a pretty interesting video and did some research today that I thought was worth sharing with my friends.  :)

“Become more of who you are to become successful.”

(If it seems like I’ve had one too many business, leadership, or communication classes, that’s probably not an inaccurate assessment.  I am in grad school finishing my MBA after all.)

FASCINATION is the state of intense emotional focus where the audience is captivated by the message.  There are seven ways in which people can fascinate others:

  1. Power
  2. Passion
  3. Mystique
  4. Prestige
  5. Alarm
  6. Rebellion
  7. Trust

The good news is that we were all born as FASCINATING individuals; we just need to figure out how to communicate it to others.  We need to build rapport in our most authentic way.  Our unique traits will provide us the key competitive advantage in the crowded marketplace of life.  (Look, I’m in the middle of writing my business plan, so you’ll have to forgive the biz-speak.)

“I’m not totally nuts for just being myself.”

Here is a fun video with Marie Forleo and Sally Hogshead where they discuss how each and every one of us can be more FASCINATING (and awesome shoes, yay!).

Sally Hogshead is in the business of making money with her research, so if you wander around on her site for a while, you will end up being asked if you want to pay to do a report of yourself.  Just thought it was worth mentioning — it is the Internet after all.

There is a really neat personality matrix on her website, so I did want to point you in that direction if you were interested in this stuff.  (And I also thought it was a great way to develop personalities for your characters or to give them that missing depth… but I also like lists of things, so maybe that’s just me.)

Oh, I’m quite sure what my archetype is, and not just because one of the women happened to be one too.  I’m outgoing and not likely to keep my thoughts and feelings to myself.  I’m experimental and want to try new ways of doing things.  I also don’t like following the rules and enjoy looking at solutions that are outside of the box.  It’s pretty evident I’m a Catalyst.

How does the world see you?

How are you going to infuse personality into everything you do to become completely unforgettable?
