Listen to Your Friends

My writing process post on Monday was rather verbose. Apologies to anyone trampled by the inordinate number of words charging off the screen. You can talk to the imaginary horses about the property damage and any marigolds that were eaten.

Apparently I cannot be trusted to not info dump at the first opportunity. I knew it was happening, but I couldn’t stop the stampede once it had begun. I’ll do better next time, I promise. ;)

WHAT I LEARNED THE HARD WAY

Today, I want to share some wisdom that I insisted on learning the hard way. I have said for a long time that I’m not interested in Twitter. Yeah, go ahead and gasp. With work emails, personal emails, Facebook, and my blog, that’s all the internet time that I can stand. I just don’t have the interest or the bandwidth to consume more, which leads me to why I’m not on Twitter.

Well… I should say that I wasn’t on Twitter. You can find me now @tracycembor.

So why did I change my mind? My good friend MJ Pullen pointed out to me that social media isn’t about me, it’s about connecting with others. Since I one day want to be able to tell people about my books, and I hope that lots of those potential readers are young, I need to use the communication channels that they use.

Also, I shouldn’t have all my eggs in one basket. While I don’t expect my blog to go anywhere, people say (or maybe they just hope) that Facebook is living on borrowed time. I don’t know. That’s a bet I don’t want to take, but just to hedge my bets in the event of FB-Armageddon, I should probably have some other ways to connect with people.

I might not consume a lot of content via Twitter, and I don’t know yet if that will change. But if that’s a way you like to get your browse on, now you know where to find me.
