That Kind of Weekend

It’s just been that kind of weekend. The air conditioner is on the fritz, the handle on one of the toilets broke, I destroyed a sweater in the wash, and Sweetpea thought Grandpa’s new car was a great place to draw on with a rock. I’m looking forward to Monday when I can go to work, be supervised by others, and if I break something, it’s their problem.

Still, I enjoyed most of my weekend. The lack of AC encouraged me to sit outside, enjoy flowers in my backyard, and read a book (Skin Game if you want to know). Fixing the toilet handle worked out because we were planning to replace the seat anyway. I am sorry about the sweater since it wasn’t mine (and no, it wasn’t so offensive that I sabotaged it on purpose.), but at least there is room in the closet for new stuff in the fall. There really isn’t an upside to my daughter’s behavior about the car. Grammy put the fear of God in her, and I believe Sweetpea’s days of auto vandalism have been brought to an end.

Also borrowed from the internet.

Not my backyard (borrowed from the internet).

I didn’t get much writing done, but I did find the stories about the dolls I mentioned in my post Friday. I’d love to share them except they aren’t really stories. At best, they are vignettes, exploring the world and the characters, but mostly lacking in plot. There’s nothing moving the action from point A to point B, which is probably why there are so many stories but are all lacking in cohesion. If I have time (ha ha ha!), it would be fun to develop a plotline to link them together, a la Charles de Lint.

So what are my writing plans for the week? I want to get a good edit done on Life of a Foundry Moth so that I can share it with some beta readers. I think it is time for some outside perspective. Another chapter of The Dreamless City is my other goal for the week. I think that is enough on my plate, don’t you? Oh yeah, and get the air conditioner fixed too. ;)
