Songs I Always Stop and Listen to

I wanted to do a list today. I’ve been in a list-making mood (as opposed to a listless mood, which is totally different.) xD I’ve got some favorite songs that I will always stop and listen to when they come on the radio, my music player, or on my computer.

Woe be to anyone who tries to skip over one of these treasured tunes while I’m being serenaded. “Someone call the ambulance cause there’s gonna be an accident.” (thanks Placebo)

One of the criteria for this list was that the songs were older, so they have withstood the test of time.  There are plenty of songs I currently adore, but my audio love is as fickle and changing as the moon.  So, in no particular order, here are five songs that I’ll always stop and listen to (and if you don’t like the preposition at the end of the sentence and have a suggestion not involving “which,” please let me know.)

Rilo Kiley – Portions for Foxes

I know I’ve talked about Jenny Lewis and “Portions for Foxes” before, but it bears repeating. There’s something about the way she describes the relationship between these people that feels so wonderfully messy and human to me. xD

Bright Eyes – First Day of My Life

Have you ever experienced that moment when you realized that your life was really starting now? Everything before then was just the prologue, just basic training, just the tutorial. Yeah, me too.

The Strokes – Last Nite

Damn, there’s just a vibe in those guitars that gets the blood buzzing, makes me want to drive around with the windows down at 2AM. Just because I got older doesn’t mean I’m old.  ;) People, they ain’t ever gonna understand. :P

Muse – Time Is Running Out

Before Muse started writing theme songs for all the Twilight movies, I feel in love with them, starting with this song. Prog rock is just so epic, and I adore the urgency and the rebellion.

The Killers – Mr. Brightside

I’m in love with Brandon Flower’s voice. It bears mentioning if I haven’t gotten around to it before. While there are many, many songs from The Killers as well as his solo work that I love, this is the song that I love the best. As someone who might have a tendency to get a wee bit paranoid when her imagination runs wild, well, let’s just say I can identify with the message of this song. ;)

And now it is back to the writing for me.  Enjoy your list and the sweet tunes!

(Tomorrow I hope to have a post about some writerly stuff I learned recently.  Can’t wait to share it with everyone!)
